Alta Vista Botanical Gardens 25th Anniversary Celebration

Vista, CA -Alta Vista Botanical Garden is delighted to share the remarkable story of a true gem nestled within the heart of Brengle Terrace Park in Vista.

Alta Vista Botanical Gardens has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1999 when the Vista Botanical Garden Foundation was established. The roots of this botanical haven trace back to the old Smitgen property, a sprawling 16-acre site that was acquired by the City of Vista in 1990. This lush expanse was an integral part of the master plan crafted in 1970, envisioning a space where nature’s beauty could flourish.

In May of 1999, a group of dedicated individuals, including Founders Dr. M.E. Darian, Rocco Valluzzi, Larry Hoekstra, JoAnn Hoekstra, and Joe Lentz, joined hands to bring the vision to life. Their commitment and passion culminated in the creation of the Vista Botanical Garden Foundation, marking the beginning of a journey that has since blossomed into an integral part of the community.

Over the past two decades, AVBG has evolved into a sanctuary of tranquility and natural splendor. Visitors are greeted by a harmonious blend of flora, each corner thoughtfully designed to showcase the diversity of plant life. The gardens stand as a testament to the meticulous planning and unwavering dedication of those who envisioned and nurtured this botanical haven.

As we celebrate 25 years of AVBG, it brings us great pleasure to share some exciting news. To mark this significant milestone, we are hosting a dinner gala event on September 7, 2024. The gala aims to raise funds for the continued growth and development of AVBG, ensuring that it remains a vibrant and thriving space for generations to come. Your support and attendance at this event would mean the world to us as we embark on the next chapter of our journey.

In addition to the gala, AVBG has been nominated as a finalist for non-profit of the year by Heroes of Vista. This esteemed recognition is a testament to the positive impact AVBG has had on the community and its unwavering commitment to fostering a love for nature and environmental stewardship.

May the coming years bring even more growth, beauty, and shared moments of awe in the presence of nature’s wonders.
