Spring 2024 Newsletter

25 YEARS!

Of Alta Vista Botanical Gardens
Over the past two decades, AVBG has evolved into a sanctuary of tranquility and natural splendor. Visitors are greeted by a harmonious blend of flora, each corner thoughtfully designed to showcase the diversity of plant life.

As we celebrate 25 years of AVBG, it brings us great pleasure to share some exciting news. To mark this significant milestone, we are hosting a dinner gala event on September 7, 2024. The gala has a dual purpose, to celebrate the past 25 years of beauty and tranquility the gardens have brought to the community; and to serve to raise funds to continue our purpose. Your support and attendance is vital as we embark on the next chapter of our journey.

A big thank you to our member, Debra Coldwell, for her photography and description of species found in the gardens!

Red-shouldered Hawk
You can hear their surprisingly high shrill when walking around the gardens. This is a very common hawk in California.

Western Tanager

Not as common as other birds, this bird in its breeding colors is quite vibrant. It shows up at Alta Vista in spring and summer.

AVBG Gate Greeters and Garden Shop Volunteers Needed

We rely on volunteers to nurture our gardens, and we’re hoping you’ll join us. We’re currently seeking friendly individuals to welcome visitors at our information kiosk. Additionally, our Garden Shop requires extra hands to keep it open more frequently. Our monthly volunteer day is held on the last Saturday of each month from 9 am to noon. If you’re interested in helping, please email volunteeravbg@gmail.com for more details.
